Showcase: The Touch Album

For anyone who knows me, they know 1. I like to march to the beat of my own drum, and 2. My wardrobe is monochromatic, Black is my favorite color to wear. At all times. Always.

This featured album was probably best described by Karen over at the studio, as I was showing her the client order.  "That's you, in an album. It's the BPP album."

She was on to something.

The Touch Album is sleek, it is sexy (neither of those words I use to describe myself), and it comes only in BLACK.  But this isn't some hum drum album.

Touch is dressed in pure sophistication.  Edgy with it's glam embossing.  Have you seen the svelte manicure of matte black with glossy black tips? The textures create the visual interest.

That is Touch.

The soft matte material of the cover base, creates this warm inviting, "have a feel" surface.  Think of that gorgeously embossed element as her jewelry. Everything working in sync.

Touch also has a sexy little secret, go ahead, open her, take a peek.....

See that? That's a gorgeously monogrammed cover page.  Front and back.  Just for you.

While I of course love Touch as a wedding album, wouldn't she be quite the minx as a boudoir album?

What do you think?

Surprise Wedding at The Veranda, Fort Myers Florida

OK folks, this is one of the best of the best in my book.  I fell in love with Katie the moment I met her.  I desperately wanted to be her photographer. Sometimes, that happens. Sometimes, I find that I have to build a relationship with my clients.  With Katie, it was a matter of moments.  See, it was the concept that "had me at Hello." Katie and Ben were planning one of the best surprises ever.  A wedding that only their parents knew about, and the rest of the family would later discover.

The cover:  An over the top engagement dinner scheduled 1 year before that date they gave to their near and dear.

The backdrop was the timeless The Veranda restaurant in downtown Fort Myers Florida.  The bride wore Badgley Mischka from head to toe, topped with romantic waves and a floral crown with gold painted leaves.  The groom in a custom suit of navy blue looked like he'd walked off the set of Mad Men.

The couple chose to stroll the streets of downtown for their first look before being tucked away as guests arrived to the restaurant.  Moments before the bride was set to make her entrance, the groom announced to all the guests that indeed, they were present for the actual wedding.

This entire wedding is so detail laden that I had to just choose a few of my favorite images for the blog post, but by all means, visit the Galleries section to view the entire wedding!

Of Love and Country, Fort Myers Florida Engagement Photography

bpp_Thompson_Howell_engagement-75_BrookePricePhotography.jpg

So, I would be lying if I said that I have been secretly jealous of all these other photographers who have had the opportunity to photograph an engagement session with one of the participants being in uniform.   A good friend of mine did a session last year and as I looked through her images, all I could think was, I want my own military session.  Well, I got it!  Engagement photography is one of my favorites and we took advantage of a few local locations in Fort Myers Florida for this one.  Including the use of a horse farm thanks to a very generous family member of mine! ( Thank You again Kelly!) Megan and Tyler have a super sweet story that I just couldn't do justice on my own of retelling, so I'll let Megan do it in her own words.

Tyler and I went to the same high school, Estero High. Tyler was one grade ahead of me. We had mutual friends and knew of each other during our time in high school but never hung out alone. His best friend, Patrick, used to give me rides to school every day and one day when Patrick’s car broke down, Tyler gave us all a ride to school. But, Tyler has no recollection of this morning.

As years passed, we both graduated and went off to college. Tyler decided to join the Marine Corps after finishing his first year of college. He came home from Pensacola on annual leave in February of 2014 before he was moved to his unit, where he would begin his real job in the Marine Corps as a flight equipment technician. My best friend, Emma, was currently and still is, in a relationship with one of Tyler’s good friends, Dylan. Emma had invited me to meet at Tyler’s house before we went out to the bar to have our girl’s night out. From the moment I saw him again in his house, I knew he was going to be mine. I had this feeling that I never felt before. Every woman in my family had told me in previous years that I would know within the first five minutes of talking to a man if I were to marry him or not.

Tyler’s leave ended very quickly and had to go back to base in Jacksonville, North Carolina. I was very upset that I only had a few days with him before he had to go back, but that’s part of being with a man in the military. We talked every single day, for almost all of the day until I saw his face again in May of 2014. When he was home, we never left each others sight. We adapted very quickly to him leaving for a few months at a time and coming home for only a short period of time. We also got used to only being able to see each other on Face Time.

Tyler came home again for Thanksgiving of 2014 and I never caught on to any of his plans. He took me shopping on Black Friday at midnight, he took me shopping the next morning, he took me to get my nails done, all which was normal. We went out to dinner to our favorite restaurant, Carabba’s, which again was normal. While we were finishing eating at Carabba’s, our server came to our table to tell us that Matt would like to buy us dessert. Well, my step-brother’s name is Matt so I got up and started looking for him but I couldn’t see him in the restaurant, so I was quite confused who Matt was until the waiter came back around to inform me that it was the manager. I sat there and thought, “What did we deserve to get a free dessert?” Next thing I know Tyler is scooting his way out of the booth and the server gave him a plate, which Tyler then passed to me. The plate had four chocolate covered strawberries (my favorite) and in red icing it read, “Will you marry me?” Tyler got down one knee and of course I said yes!

All the best to these two! It was such a pleasure to meet them both and to get to record this chapter in their love story!

Merry Christmas!

christmas2014_2.png

christmas tree, tis the season, merry christmas 2014Oh my. What a year.  I had this amazing plan to execute this super great family photo of my crew.  I even had the  Christmas card designed.  One version for the studio for sending to clients, the other for family and friend.   But, guess what?? My poor family has been terribly sick for many many days.  Just now we are starting to feel better, even if a less than terrific cough is hanging around. But, at least it is in time to truly enjoy the next two days spent with family, laughing, enjoying meals and being together.  It was my fear that we would still be quarantined away from everyone.  So, although it is not the images I had planned.  Or the card design for that matter.  I wanted to share how, even in chaos, there is blessings.

We are together.  Our health, it is on the mend and we will have our time spent cherishing the memories made over the next couple of days.

A family photo can happen another day.  And trust me, it will. :)

So here is my "stand in" Holiday greeting, with the back of the card design for the clients.   Thank you all so very much for continuing to support BPP! It means more than you will ever know!

Brave the Storm: Naples Wedding Photographer

BPP_8256-Edit_BrookePricePhotography.jpg

Something you should know about winters here in South Florida.  They aren't all that cold until you are by the water.  And, they are windy..... This past Saturday was no exception.  66 degrees to us Floridians feels close to frigid.  Add to that,  category 1 winds and it can make things tough.  But, this gorgeous bride opted to brave it all and for that I am grateful.  This is just one of the many stunning shots from the day.

Luke + Courtney, The Forsyth Park Inn Savannah GA Wedding

I am so excited to finally be able to share this gorgeous southern wedding with you all!   I have had a long time love affair with Savannah, GA.  Since I was young, it was a goal of mine to one day live there, constantly soaking up the rich history and art.  So the day I got the call from Luke and Courtney to shoot their wedding in Savannah Georgia, I was over the moon!   My little photographer heart was doing somersaults. Their wedding was a picture perfect southern soiree.  Held intimately in the courtyard at historic Forsyth Park Inn, it felt like all the world dissolved away and all that was left were the two of them and the beginning of a very happily ever after.  Immediately following the ceremony we traveled directly across the street for portraits inside Forsyth Park, which is stunning if you have never been.  Rows and rows of old oaks deliciously swathed in Spanish moss.   Rejoining guests for a champagne toast and cake cutting after photos and then climbing aboard a trolley to be taken to dinner by the river.  The private dining room of Vic's on the River gave guests a gorgeous view of the river and ships as they dined on a delicious menu of southern favorites such as fried green tomatoes.  A few more images were taken of just the bride and groom by the river before climbing back on the trolley to return to the Forsyth Park Inn to wish guests well and retire for the evening.

The entire affair was understated elegance, pure sophistication, and absolutely perfect for the bride and groom who planned it.   I am so thankful to have been there for their gorgeous day and to now show you a few images that are my favorites.

Congratulations again Mr. + Mrs. Tiner!

Beware! The scary trend in Wedding Photography

complete wedding party, wedding photography, don't get burned Hey there Awesome Bride - or Groom - or Planner!

Can we have a Come to Jesus Moment?  There is a super scary trend in Wedding Photography happening everyday, and awesome people like YOU are getting burned. Bad.

So, here's what is going down -

You are searching for a photographer for your wedding.   Your budget is so tight it's squeaking, and then the clouds part and the angels sing!  You just landed on a photographer's page with amazing images and they are SUPER CHEAP!  No, I mean you just can't believe your luck!

So, in your haste to snag this photography guru,  you book no questions asked and then months down the road you get your images back.  Only, something is wrong.

None of what you've been given looks like the images on the photographers website.  As a matter of fact, you're finding it hard to believe that these images and the ones you saw were even taken by the same person!

*cue the DUN - DUN - DUNNNN! (Also if you love The Croods like I do, imagine Belt.)

You've just been had by a Fraud.   And it is happening - every day.

There are some awesome sites out there like stopstealingphotos.com  That are trying their best to keep up with this mess.  They are calling would be photographers out left and right, for stealing!   Yes, you heard me.  STEALING.

These "photographers" are wanting so badly to break into wedding photography that they are willing to con you and jeopardize their standing in the community at the same time. What happens with this scary trend in wedding photography, is these photographers slap up "the kind of work I would like to do"  on their websites, only they aren't telling the client YOU; that these are images they have not taken. They aren't telling you that this is a wedding shot by a seasoned pro - by someone who understood what to do when the light got tricky, or had the equipment in place to handle the No Flash rule at your church - the one that also wouldn't let them within 5 feet of the altar.

There is nothing wrong with being a new photographer looking to break into weddings.  We all do it.  We all have had to do it.  But there is a right and a wrong way.

Stealing and then coning you into believing they can produce a product they have no way of making is not the way.

real moments, wedding photography, real photographer

So - What can you do to protect yourself from this scary trend in wedding photography?

I'm glad you asked.

1.  Look for Consistency

All photographers develop their own style of shooting and editing.  Take a look around. If you see differences in the images you are looking at, there is a good possibility that the images are from different photographers.

2.  Ask to see a Complete Wedding

I don't care how it happens, if a photographer shoots a wedding they get it from beginning to end.  I have shot elopements (Just 2 people and the officiate) and guess what - there is a beginning, middle, and end to the photo story.  Ask for a complete wedding.   There is absolutely no reason that a photographer should not be able to show it to you.

3.  Check their Reviews or ask for References

Guess what?  Vendors network at events.  It happens.  Know what else - happy clients tell one another.   Look for their online reviews.  Ask for references if there are not many.  I personally only have 12 recorded online reviews on wedding wire - I've sent double the emails for requests - but not everyone will answer them.   However,  there are reviews by others on Facebook as well - so look around, somewhere, someone is talking about your photographer.  If you can't find anything at all, be worried.

4.  That brings us to -  Stalk them  ,   Check their social media

I don't know a single business owner that doesn't have their name out everywhere possible.  Check their social media.   You should find consistency in the work you are seeing on all platforms.  Look at Facebook, Google+, Twitter,Instagram - make it a priority to check up on them.   As a matter of fact - hang around for a bit, you can learn a lot about them by how they conduct themselves.  Maybe - even if their images are legit, they aren't a good match for you!  Just a thought.

5. Google Them

Yep, I am dead serious.  Google their name.  If they are online, you will see where.  And guess what - if they've ever been caught stealing photos you can bet there is a good chance you will find out about it.

6.  Pay attention to geographical clues

Unless your photographer advertises as a destination photog - seeing a fabulous Parisienne wedding in Utah might not be kosher!  Look around, dig, you're about to hand over thousands of dollars to this person, make them accountable to be who they say they are!

7. When all else fails - Trust Your Gut

I know you want to stick to your budget - I know that weddings are crazy expensive and hectic ( they don't have to be, I promise.)  But -  if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.  So, trust your gut.  If you get the skeevies from your photographer, it might be time to find a new one!

DIY Wedding Splendor

Oh I have a beauty for today!!  A gorgeous neutral palette, amazing and relaxed outdoor ceremony, and honestly, two of the sweetest people you'll ever meet! Bri + Zach's intimate nuptials are like taking a deep breath of fresh air!  I instantly am calm when looking at these. From the ombre bride's maids dresses to the baby's breath bouquets. Every fine detail is simple yet stunning. Sentimental details surrounded this couple from the ring bearer carrying the rings on the Groom's childhood Bible, to the Jar of Love Notes  Bri wrote to Zach for each day leading up to their wedding day! Guests were asked to choose seats and not sides for the ceremony and then joined the couple for an outdoor dinner of barbeque and salads.  Southern staples of Sweet Tea and Lemonade were served as well. Instead of a traditional guest book, the couple opted for a few different items that will become heirlooms and works of art in their home. It was such a blessing to work with this amazing couple and I wish them lots of love and blessings for the future!
