Of Love and Country, Fort Myers Florida Engagement Photography

bpp_Thompson_Howell_engagement-75_BrookePricePhotography.jpg

So, I would be lying if I said that I have been secretly jealous of all these other photographers who have had the opportunity to photograph an engagement session with one of the participants being in uniform.   A good friend of mine did a session last year and as I looked through her images, all I could think was, I want my own military session.  Well, I got it!  Engagement photography is one of my favorites and we took advantage of a few local locations in Fort Myers Florida for this one.  Including the use of a horse farm thanks to a very generous family member of mine! ( Thank You again Kelly!) Megan and Tyler have a super sweet story that I just couldn't do justice on my own of retelling, so I'll let Megan do it in her own words.

Tyler and I went to the same high school, Estero High. Tyler was one grade ahead of me. We had mutual friends and knew of each other during our time in high school but never hung out alone. His best friend, Patrick, used to give me rides to school every day and one day when Patrick’s car broke down, Tyler gave us all a ride to school. But, Tyler has no recollection of this morning.

As years passed, we both graduated and went off to college. Tyler decided to join the Marine Corps after finishing his first year of college. He came home from Pensacola on annual leave in February of 2014 before he was moved to his unit, where he would begin his real job in the Marine Corps as a flight equipment technician. My best friend, Emma, was currently and still is, in a relationship with one of Tyler’s good friends, Dylan. Emma had invited me to meet at Tyler’s house before we went out to the bar to have our girl’s night out. From the moment I saw him again in his house, I knew he was going to be mine. I had this feeling that I never felt before. Every woman in my family had told me in previous years that I would know within the first five minutes of talking to a man if I were to marry him or not.

Tyler’s leave ended very quickly and had to go back to base in Jacksonville, North Carolina. I was very upset that I only had a few days with him before he had to go back, but that’s part of being with a man in the military. We talked every single day, for almost all of the day until I saw his face again in May of 2014. When he was home, we never left each others sight. We adapted very quickly to him leaving for a few months at a time and coming home for only a short period of time. We also got used to only being able to see each other on Face Time.

Tyler came home again for Thanksgiving of 2014 and I never caught on to any of his plans. He took me shopping on Black Friday at midnight, he took me shopping the next morning, he took me to get my nails done, all which was normal. We went out to dinner to our favorite restaurant, Carabba’s, which again was normal. While we were finishing eating at Carabba’s, our server came to our table to tell us that Matt would like to buy us dessert. Well, my step-brother’s name is Matt so I got up and started looking for him but I couldn’t see him in the restaurant, so I was quite confused who Matt was until the waiter came back around to inform me that it was the manager. I sat there and thought, “What did we deserve to get a free dessert?” Next thing I know Tyler is scooting his way out of the booth and the server gave him a plate, which Tyler then passed to me. The plate had four chocolate covered strawberries (my favorite) and in red icing it read, “Will you marry me?” Tyler got down one knee and of course I said yes!

All the best to these two! It was such a pleasure to meet them both and to get to record this chapter in their love story!

Merry Christmas!

christmas2014_2.png

christmas tree, tis the season, merry christmas 2014Oh my. What a year.  I had this amazing plan to execute this super great family photo of my crew.  I even had the  Christmas card designed.  One version for the studio for sending to clients, the other for family and friend.   But, guess what?? My poor family has been terribly sick for many many days.  Just now we are starting to feel better, even if a less than terrific cough is hanging around. But, at least it is in time to truly enjoy the next two days spent with family, laughing, enjoying meals and being together.  It was my fear that we would still be quarantined away from everyone.  So, although it is not the images I had planned.  Or the card design for that matter.  I wanted to share how, even in chaos, there is blessings.

We are together.  Our health, it is on the mend and we will have our time spent cherishing the memories made over the next couple of days.

A family photo can happen another day.  And trust me, it will. :)

So here is my "stand in" Holiday greeting, with the back of the card design for the clients.   Thank you all so very much for continuing to support BPP! It means more than you will ever know!

Barefoot Beach Florida Family Session

bpp_KrollFamily_2014-71_BrookePricePhotography.jpg

Fall becomes this whirlwind time of year.  But, I have the opportunity to meet some amazing families.  The Kroll's were one of the awesome families who trusted me with their holiday memories this year.   The joy of family and being together is encompassed brilliantly with this family and their Barefoot Beach session. Barefoot beach is one of my favorite locations this time of year.  It is a bit less traveled, the beach itself is wide, and the sunsets captured are breathtaking.  Barefoot beach is one of those locations that is quintessential south Florida.

This group was so energetic and enjoyed being together with one another.  They truly just wanted to have how much they love one another captured.  From Mom and Dad, Oma and Opa, to the sister in law you can't distinguish from the other sisters.  The closeness shared by this family is nearly enviable.  My siblings and I and our spouses aren't nearly as close as this.

It was such a pleasure to be there to capture these moments for their sweet family.   These are the sessions where I feel the full joy of my chosen profession.

Trees, Florida Portrait Photographer

I am lucky to have friends in this industry.  I feel even more fortunate that the small group that I have selflessly allow me to pick their brain, bounce ideas, share techniques.  They are always helpful, be it a critique, or in this case, as a model in the trees. Meet my friend, fellow photographer, and sometimes wedding right hand man; Logan of Logan Newell Photography.    Logan is an accomplished photojournalist by trade, entrepreneur by blood, talented musician, and now, a beard model.   I jest, but seriously.....

So, what does two photographers with time on their hands do?  Buy an axe from Home Depot and stomp around a wooded field of course!

I would like to thank Logan for being a good sport.  Making an excellent axe man, and for his willingness to teach, even when he doesn't realize how much knowledge he has to share, but mostly for being my friend in this crazy industry.

Now - on to the majesty that is The Beard. :)

A Day in the Life of Abigail, Lifestyle Newborn Photography

It is around 9am. The Florida sunshine outside is promising a beautiful day. Here in the nursery, amidst the mermaids, we're experiencing "Hurricane Abby". Our catalyst - Dad blew a raspberry.  All in giggles and good fun, every thing is captured. Even that crocodile tear Abigail is working so hard for.   As mom scoops her up, things calm, well until dad attempts another raspberry war.

This new family of 3 is very special to me.  Dad, Ernie, is my husband Doug's cousin.   I have been waiting patiently for an opportunity away from work on the weekend so that I could finally meet their new baby girl, Abigail.  As Doug and I sat and chatted with Ernie and Nina, I found myself reminiscing in their stories.  Four months new to the parent journey, they feel those early struggles some of us tend to forget.  The sleepless nights,  the schedule or inability to keep a schedule, and STUFF! Babies are so small, but their things are everywhere.

Those first few months are so fleeting.  Everything is new.  Everyone is adjusting.  Babies grow and change so quickly, we don't realize as parents, we are growing and changing too.   For most, we don't think about the things we do everyday as beautiful.  When planning for a portrait session, we are choosing a special outfit, picking a location, etc.   But, your everyday - the in between not often seen - it is BEAUTIFUL.

I enjoyed the visit with family, it is always wonderful to spend time with Ernie and Nina.  Abigail is beyond precious.  I'm glad they let me be a fly on the wall for the day, to not only capture the portraits they were ready for, but to let me snag a piece of their day just being new parents with a new baby... crocodile tear and all.
