In honor of Valentine's Day, I have a truly beautiful Love Story to share. The day every little girl dreams of, her wedding day. The fairytale. A perfect Princess; gown and all, will marry her knight in shinning armor. All of this was true for Amanda and Cody on March 23 2013. And Cody would truly prove to be her knight. Right there to rescue her. Childhood friends that, over time, fell in love. Their happily ever after was just beginning.
Amanda and Cody's wedding day was pure perfection. The bride looked stunning. Her groom's face said more than words ever could of his love for her. It was so wonderful to be a part of such a special day. Family and Friends celebrated the couple well into the night. And as my second shooter, Logan and I left for the evening, we dispersed with hugs and well wishes.
Then the call came to me at 7am the next morning.
Sometime in the early morning hours, Cody had awoken in their honeymoon suite to Amanda unresponsive. His beautiful, blushing bride was slipping away. Immediately he called 911 and began to administer CPR.
Doctors later would inform the family that Amanda had suffered Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy, or in simple terms "broken heart syndrome". Everyone was on pins and needles. How could a perfectly healthy 27-year-old woman, who had just celebrated the most wonderful day of her life suffer such an attack? Amanda spent 4 days in the hospital in a coma. Doctor's were unsure what or how she would be affected once she awoke. Cody, diligently stayed by her side. Holding her hand, talking to her. When Amanda did awake, she sat up talked with Cody and then realized, he was wearing his wedding band. Then everyone learned what the outcome of the attack had been.
Amanda had no memory of her wedding. None at all.
For the past 10 months, Amanda has been trying to gain bits a pieces of her day back. Her photos from the day have been used in her therapy sessions. And while all this has been going on, she's just been thriving. She and Cody are possibly closer and happier now than before. It took such a freak accident but they had the chance to look at what they could have lost, right in the eye, and they have bonded stronger because of it.
Now - this next part is the awesome sauce to such a beautiful Love Story.

* I feel compelled to write a response to some of the Media Outlets that have run Amanda + Cody's story and the individuals who have responded on these public platforms. To the Media: make sure that as you report the story you do it accurately. This family has been through so much already. To the Individuals: Those of you who have gone out of your way to slander the character of a woman you do not know; SHAME ON YOU. I pray you never suffer a tragic event in your life that is unexplainable. That you never have to go through what this family has only to then see the character of their loved one in question. Some of you in particular have more OPINION than Common Sense. You are not medical professionals. - Brooke
